3 Handy Tips for New Drivers
Learning a new skill is challenging and always difficult. To master anything, you must dedicate yourself to it. Driving is no different. It’s a crucial skill that everyone must know. And like with any other skill, you will undoubtedly face obstacles. There will be some aspects that you will learn immediately and then there will be some that will take time. However, learning it holistically is important.
And if you are a new driver or planning to learn how to drive, there are certain things you must keep in mind. Here some tips that always come handy:
1. Stay Slow
Learning the basics and racing the car at 80mph
might feel thrilling and exciting, but it’s not the best way to learn driving.
It may put yours and others’ lives in danger. Therefore, in the beginning, you
need to take each step gradually and with focus. For that, you need to learn
and practise enough to get yourself acquainted with the controls of the car.
The purpose of learning how to drive is to learn how to control a moving
vehicle. This is why you must first learn how to control the car at a slow
speed. As you gain confidence, slightly increase the speed and learn to control
the car at that speed. And so on.
It’s only in the movies that when some
character is tensed, they dash into the car and go on a long drive to free
their mind. Dramatic as it sounds, it’s not recommended, however. When you
drive with a tensed mind, you are not as much focused on driving as you are on
your tension. Even in movies, characters that do it often meet with an accident
or save themselves from it in the nick of time. In movies, it’s done for drama.
You can’t afford such drama in real life.
3. Don’t tailgate
Given the population of India and the traffic on India roads, tailgate becomes inevitable. But if you have space, maintain a safe distance. In case the car, ahead of you, needs to swerve or stop suddenly, you have enough space to observe, analyse, and react accordingly to avert the collision.
Learning how to drive is not an easy task and you must always be an active learner. These are some of the tips that expert trainers at reputed Maruti driving institutes teach to their students.
